AQA (Any Question Answered)
Re-branding. Writing and co-directing TV commercial

Before Google, Siri and Alexa, you could text any question to AQA (Any Question Answered). For a charge of one pound, you'd get an accurate answer from a real person. The answers were often wryly humorous and the service was mainly being used to resolve pub arguments.

The clients' brief was for a TV commercial that would widen appeal and reflect the brand experience. They were presented with a new name, logo and identity as well as the commercial and agreed to the radical change in identity.

The TV commercial portrayed the AQA researchers as an all-seeing, all-knowing cult called The six-triple-three-six. Each member of this cult had 63336 logo tattooed on some part their anatomy.
The commercial sparked speculation on among conspiracy theorists and a fair bit of controversy on YouTube (See here).

The re-launch far exceeded targets and the clients were able to sell the brand within a year.

The brief was for a TV ad to launch a site called Bingo Riot (not a great name - but the best available domain containing 'bingo' that the clients had come up with).


Bingo sites tend to oversell themselves as a wildly exciting online parties, which is not the reality of the experience. The name Tea and Bingo was proposed instead, positionng the site as an innocent indulgence - the place to have a cuppa and an online natter.


The launch was a success and the founders sold the brand on shortly afterwards. The TV commercial is one of four that were produced.

Brand concept, name, dialling device and character.

Currently at the funding stage, this start-up will be the UK's first multi-assistance service.

The 'Z' dialing device makes the phone number memorable - therefore making the brand memorable. While a memorable number may seem superfluous in the smartphone age it is valuable as an emerency number.

In any non-999 emergency - from a broken boiler to a lost mobile - members will be able to call 0800z free from any phone and speak to a real, helpful person. They'll arrange for everything to be taken care of by calling on a nationwide network of assistance providers. Watch this space...

EXTERIOR CLEANING SERVICE
Name, Logo, TOV, Website Copy, Product labels

An independent cleaning contractor approached me to re-design the logo of his start-up company. It was called 'Insta-clean solutions' and provides a quicker and more effective way to clean roofs, patios, driveways etc.
I proposed renaming it 'The Smart Softwash Company' and calling the products 'Smart Softwashes'. I went on to design the logo and product labels as well as writing all web copy and producing a radio ad.
CITY CONSULTANCY
Name, TOV, Homepage Copy 

A consortium of City of London professionals that arranges introductions and facilitates partnerships between UK and foreign businesses.
They use their expertise and contacts to help secure investment and launch new ventures.
Their main focus is on Middle Eastern countries, in which The City of London is generally regarded as a bastion of good business practice.
VICTIMS' ACTION GROUP
Name & TOV.


Originally called 'The Stolen Farms Action Group', the group was formed to help farming families swindled out of their homes and farms.
There are around 10,000 cases in which unscrupulous brokers, solicitors and lenders have allegedly conspired to seize control and ultimately possession of family-owned farms.
The group aims to increase awareness of the scandal and raise funds to finance a class action against the fraudsters.

FLIGHT DELAY COMPENSATION SERVICE
Name & TOV.

A start-up entering a very crowded market with a very different (and highly confidential) business model. Business will come from third party referral, so SEO was not a major consideration in naming.
The ambition is to begin with Flight Delay Compensation and later branch out in to other services and products related to air travel, so the name had to allow for this.
